Flute Lessons ... in Newport, Sydney

Lessons begin from age 8 up to and including adults, and are held in keeping with the school terms.  Times are mostly after school and early evening, however there are some daytime, fortnightly, and Saturday times available.

How am I different?

My background as a Classroom Music Specialist means I structure the lessons and explain things until the student understands. I also foster the student's understanding of the bigger picture of the music they are playing. The aim is to make it interesting and to fire their imagination, to hopefully inspire them so they will enjoy being a growing musician. They are encouraged to write their own music, become fluent at sight reading, to improvise, to develop as an independent learner (including effective practise habits that lead to success), to develop a vocabulary for describing their thoughts and feelings about music. During every lesson they are accompanied on piano and or in a duet with 1 or 2 flutes. Their growing self-confidence and self-esteem as a musician is a priority. As part of that I encourage them to build a healthy social life around playing music.

Music exams are optional.

The first one or two lessons are paid at the casual rate.  Then when the decision is made to become a MAB student, the remainder of the term fee is paid in advance.  Half or one hour lesson duration is possible.  There are limited fortnightly options.  It is necessary for the student to gradually build up their library of music, indeed this makes a big difference to their motivation.   It is highly desirable and recommended that the student also build / broaden their library of listening music and preferably also attend a variety of live concerts.  Once again these activities make a significant difference to the growing perspective and awareness of the young musician.
